What does a job search not going well look like? If you have less than 2 interviews scheduled in the next 4 weeks, it’s not going well. Is there a solution? Absolutely. Here’s what to do.
Revamp Your Resume and Cover Letter
The first thing I look for in a resume is quantification. Does this person have numbers, dollars, or percentages that describe what they’ve accomplished in their past roles? Quantifying your accomplishments is vital to getting the attention of hiring managers and getting the interview. Without them, your resume blends into the mass of others and you don’t stand out.
Find out how to quantify your resume here.
Then, take a hard look at your cover letter. Are you using a generic form letter you found online? Rewrite it and put your own personality into it. Recruiters and hiring managers do read cover letters. Make your cover letter as much of a marketing document as your resume.
Stop Applying Online for Jobs
Applying online for jobs is the worst way to get interviews. Qualified people miss out on interviews all the time because of the broken online application system.
Online applications don’t do you any favors, so skip them. Start sending your resume straight to the hiring manager. Who’s the hiring manager? It’s the person who would be your boss or your boss’s boss. This is the person who can see you’d be a great fit for the job, and the person with the problem that needs a solution.
As a bonus, when you contact hiring managers directly, you’ll start uncovering hidden jobs. These are jobs that aren’t yet listed for whatever reason. And, they’re some of the best jobs available.

Tap Into Your Network
Networking is and has always been one of the most effective ways to get an interview. Everyone you know or even occasionally talk to should know that you’re looking for X job.
All you have to do is let them know and ask them to pass along job leads to you. Or, they can pass your resume along to someone who may want to speak with you.
