We are what we repeatedly do.
Excellence, therefore, is not an act
but a habit.
– Aristotle
“Excellence is a habit” is a good thought to keep not just for your life, but also for your career and your job search.
In your career, some of those habits of excellence are continuing to learn (reading books, listening to audios, etc.) so you become more knowlegable and valuable, putting in extra effort, being the ‘go-t0’ person, and even maintaining your network. Just like all the daily things you do in your career build over time to make you more successful, all the little things you do every day in your job search build to success. Small steps every day eventually get you to where you want to go. The right habits, little by little, make you better and stronger than you were before.
In your job search, these habits are the same types of habits that make you successful in your career:
- You learn what you need to know in order to be successful. Because most people don’t job search often, they don’t have the skills to be really good at it. Build the skills you need: watch a YouTube video on job searching, read an article about writing a killer resume, or take a webinar (class) on how to answer interview questions.
- Spend time every day doing the things that will get you interviews: contact hiring managers or people in your network to uncover jobs.
- Consume things that help you keep a positive mental attitude. Listen to this audio to learn to develop and use a positive attitude for your job search.
Do something every day that you know will make you stronger, better, and more than before–and you will achieve excellence.
Best of luck!
