Monday Motivator for Your Job Search – Keep Your Focus

job search success inspiration quote

It is so easy to get distracted by all of the details of life and the mistakes we make along the way. In fact, we may even be wired to remember negative events more easily than positive ones.

However…in order to be successful we need to retrain our brains. Jack Canfield is right…successful people maintain a positive focus.

Have you made a mistake or had a failure? Learn what you can from it and move on smarter and wiser than before. Stay focused on what you need to do next to keep moving toward your goal.

So…how does this apply to your job search?

It’s all too easy to focus on why we may have not gotten the interview or received a promised phone call. Don’t sit there and wonder what’s going on…call them (or email them) and ask.

Getting sucked into chores or TV instead of spending time on your job search? Don’t let yourself get distracted. I’m not one who thinks you should spend 8 hours a day job searching, but 4-5 hours is a good goal. Reach out to people, brush up on your job searching skills, and send out your resume. I know one gentleman who spent some time at the gym while he searched. Not only did the workouts make him feel better about himself and maintain his positive attitude, he started his new job 50 pounds lighter.

Not getting interviews? You have a couple of options. (1) Figure out where you may be making a mistake: maybe your resume isn’t marketing you like it should. (2) Expand your search. Job searching is a numbers game. You can’t necessarily contact only 10 employers and expect to get a job. It may be 40, 50, or even 100. Someone out there has a job for you.

If you’re having trouble maintaining your positive focus (and it can be difficult, I know) and you’re not making progress, consider spending time with a career coach. You’ll have accountability, encouragement, and most important of all–proven tips that help you succeed faster.

Best of luck!
