Monday Motivator for Your Job Search – Strive to Be of Value

Strive not to be a success,
but rather to be of value.

~ Albert Einstein

Not only is this a great guideline for life, this is a great guideline for your job search.

All potential employers want to know how you will be valuable to them. This is what you’re doing when you are selling yourself for the job.

Many job seekers think, “Well, I can do what they say they want in the job description. Isn’t that enough?” No, it isn’t enough. All cars can get you from Point A to Point B, which is the primary purpose of a car. But when you go to buy a car, you are looking for things that make that car stand out and appear valuable to you.

How can you show your value to employers?

  • Quantify your resume. Candidate X and Candidate Y may both have been ‘responsible for’ some task, but the person who adds a number to that shows evidence of their value. See examples of how to quantify your resume.
  • Bring a 30-60-90-Day Plan to your interview. This will show your value in a big way. It shows that you are thoughtful, strategic, informed, driven, and already dedicated to the job. Candidates with no experience have beaten out candidates with years of experience through the power of these plans–because they demonstrate your value, now and in the future.Read more about how 30-60-90-Day Plans make you stand out and get the offer, and how to create a 30 60 90 day plan.
