Monday Motivator for Your Job Search – Develop Successful Habits

Flower

Successful people are simply those with successful habits.

~Brian Tracy

Think about this…once something becomes a habit, it becomes an automatic thing you do.  You don’t think about it…you just do it.  If you replace a few bad habits with good habits that get you where you want to go (successful habits), then you will eventually (and easily) be successful.

For instance…if you make a habit out of eating fruit and yogurt for breakfast, it becomes less of a struggle to decide:  fruit and yogurt, or doughnut?  You’ve developed a successful habit that will lead to healthier living, with much less effort.

In a job search, what habits should you cultivate for success?  The first and best one is contacting people every day.  Every single day, your habit should be to contact a set number of people–those in your network and hiring managers.  The more you do this, the easier it is.  It becomes much less of a struggle to make yourself do it.  It becomes your automatic habit.  Let your network know you’re looking for a new role, and contact hiring managers at places you’d like to work.  Not everyone will have a job lead or an interview for you, but some will.  You will end up with more interviews, more often, and it will seem easier to get them.

Here are two resources to help you:

Effortless networking – Find easy strategies for building, maintaining, and tapping into your network in my book, Networking Effectively: How to Build Your Network for Career Success, available on Amazon.

How to contact hiring managers – Approximately 70% of all jobs aren’t advertised–so contacting hiring managers will help you find those hidden jobs and get interviews.  See how to find them and what to say to get the interview with my Hidden Jobs Finder.
