Have you ever considered a life in the military? Many U.S.citizens enjoy a long and rewarding life serving their country. It’s a career that can give you excellent skills and opportunities. There are advantages, too, such as free medical care and a good pension. But there are other benefits to life in the military that you may not realise, so we thought we would have a look at some of them.
It pays for your education
You can pick up scholarship and grants to attend university and college if you agree to sign up to the military post qualification. It could cover your entire tuition and course costs, as well as providing you that little bit extra for books and living expenses. Depending on your situation, it may even help you pay off your student loans, too. Have a look at some more education benefits at GoArmy.com.
You don’t have to pay for travel
Not only does the military provide free travel for you and your family when traveling to and from duty bases, but it also allows you to travel for free in your spare time. As long as there is space available on a military flight you and your family can take advantage of the opportunity to see the world how you want to. And with 30 days annual leave to take, there will be plenty of time for you to do that.
Free accommodation
Staying at a military base might not seem like an ideal vacation, but look into things a bit deeper and you might be surprised. For starters, you can stay at a military base for zero cost, and you can use all of its amenities. Not only that, but there are military bases in some stunning locations, including Waikiki Beach in Hawaii and right next door to Disneyland.
Flexible housing arrangements
You can get more flexible housing arrangements when you are a service member. Companies such as Ultris Rancho Del Oro provide a number of short or long term living arrangements for their apartment blocks. This gives you the flexibility that you need when you are away on tour for so many months of the year. Especially if you just can’t justify buying a home that will just remain empty for all the time you are away. Don’t forget that when you live off-base, the military will also pay you a monthly stipend to help you cover your rent, mortgage and utility payments.
Veterans benefits
There are many benefits for veterans, too. Of course, there is an excellent pension, but you will also be given veteran’s priority for government jobs. In fact, your career will have many available options once you have finished your service. You can read some great career change tips in our article on life after being a service member. Finally, you may also qualify for a VA loan to buy a house, meaning you could find a cheaper mortgage than the average civilian.
As you can see, there are many advantages to becoming a service member in the United States military. If you know of any more, feel free to let us know about them!
