A 30/60/90-day plan is so out of the ordinary, how do I know it's really necessary?

What hiring manager doesn't want to see you demonstrate what a great addition you’ll be to the team? What hiring manager doesn't want you to make the interview easier and more interesting? And what hiring manager doesn't want to be excited and confident about a new hire?

And ask yourself this: do you really want to compete against someone who has listened to me and brought a 30/60/90-day plan? Who prepared, did their research and demonstrated how much they want the job? Who has a higher-level interview conversation because of it? Do you want to go up against that person? I wouldn't.

All jobs have some kind of training, orientation, tasks, objectives and goals. When you articulate those, and you spend time in your interview talking with the hiring manager about how you'll meet these goals in that job—and you're the only candidate who's done this—they will be blown away.

Can I use this plan to get a promotion?

I have an interview tomorrow. Can I just take the template and put my name on it? How ‘done’ is it?

The bad news is that you can’t just print it out as is and put your name on it—and you wouldn’t want to, because then you wouldn’t get the maximum effect you want to have out of the plan. In the training, I tell you what you need to be looking for to get the biggest wow factor, but you have to do the looking. But, when you do the looking, you get the knowledge. You get to be the most prepared you’ve ever been for an interview. That means that you’re going to be super-confident and calm. You won’t be nervous. You’ll be able to glide through the interview.

What if the interviewer doesn’t ask to see my plan?

In management-level interviews, they are likely to ask your thoughts and ideas for how you would approach this job, or how you would solve some issue. These are great times to introduce your plan. There are several key points in your interview where it’s easy to bring it up. In the coaching, I will tell you where they are and what to say.

Even if something happens in the interview and you never get to talk about your plan, just the act of creating one will elevate your interview performance more than you can imagine. All your answers to interview questions will be better and stronger than they would be if you had not created the plan. And, you always have the chance to bring your plan to the second interview!

What if I make a mistake in my plan?

It's impossible for your plan to be perfect before you speak to the hiring manager. You can’t possibly know all the details yet. However, when you discuss your plan, you can ask things like:

"Do I have this right?”
“Do you agree that this is a good goal in this time frame?”
“Do you have any suggestions I should add to my plan?”

All of these questions facilitate conversation and give you information you need.

When they give you the answers, write those down and tighten up your plan to make it even stronger. Then, guess what? Now you've got a fantastic follow-up tool that's amazing, and there won't be another candidate in the job interview process that will do that.
