If you’re over 50 (or sometimes 40) in a job search, you may be asked interview questions that are indirectly related to your age. Employers are restricted in asking direct questions (because of anti-discrimination laws) but still have concerns about you, and try to address them in other ways.

• How would you feel about working for someone who knows less than you?

• I noticed that you are applying for a position that isn’t as senior as your past positions. Why would you consider a job that is, in effect, a demotion for you?

• Why would you accept a lesser salary than what you made before? (Won’t you jump ship when a better offer comes along?) – This of course, wouldn’t apply to everyone, but in certain situations, this answer is very important.
