56 Year Old (No College Degree) Lands 6 Figure Job

6 figure salary jobI wanted to share this with you to encourage you in your job search. If you're reading job listings and wondering how you're going to get hired, or if you're applying for jobs and getting no response, this is for you.

Tim had only a high-school diploma and was 56 years old. He applied for many jobs online but didn't get any interviews from that and he was terrified.

Did he have to go back to school? Did he have to take a lesser-paying job? No and No.

He only souped up his job search and interview skills - and got a 6-figure job offer! It's a great story:

30 60 90 day plan got the job offerWe just received this email from Jane. I wanted to share it with you because it goes to show that the most talented and qualified of us can have a lot of trouble landing a new job simply because of how we present ourselves to employers.

Jane had been downsized, was living in an unfamiliar city and 63 years old. She made it to final interviews 6 times and lost every one, which killed her confidence--until she got our 30-60-90-Day Plan and landed a job within 2 weeks:

How to Have Employers Competing For You When You're Over 50

Job-OfferIf you are over 50 and in the job search, you know it can be tough.  I encourage you to read Mariana's story and see how she ended up with 3 companies pursuing her as a job candidate (for exciting jobs with increased salaries!):

Hello Peggy,

I felt I needed to send you a big "thank you!". Here's why:

I have been looking for a job for 9 months after being laid off from my previous employer. I am over 50 so it hasn't been easy, and I can't remember how I found you and your resources, but I want to say it was approximately 2 months ago and I knew I had to do something different, so I decided to invest the money and purchase your services...I am so glad I found you!

What I found to be the most valuable assets were the 30/60/90 day plan and the advice of making sure you include numbers, percentages, etc. on your resume (i.e., increased leads by 40%, etc.). These were the 2 keys that got me the phone interviews and then the face-to-face meetings. The look of surprise when I mentioned I had a 30/60/90 plan prepared was priceless - they all were most impressed.

So now for the good news, or should I say great news! I literally have 3 solid job offers that I am in the process of deciding on. Because they are all great offers and literally came in within 1 day of each other I was honest with each of them letting them know that there were other companies that had made offers and that I owed each of them the respect of doing my due diligence as I had spent significant time with each of them. They all said they completely understand and now I am getting emails from all 3 asking what they can do to get me on board with their companies. It's seriously amazing! It is a very difficult decision to make as they have all offered me equity in the company, salary is 15K more than my previous job and all are in an exciting space. So, by end of day Monday I will have made my decision and will be happily employed again.

Please tell your members that there is hope for those of us over 50. All 3 of these companies mentioned during our last conversations that they were looking for people with "experience" and "maturity".

Bottom line - your product(s) and you really do work! I am impressed!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

-Mariana

If  you are over 50 (0r even over 40) this is what you need to do:

Doing these things will put you far ahead of your competition so you can receive fantastic job offers, too.

Over 50 with 3 Job Offers...Here's How

Job-OfferIf you are over 50 and in the job search, you may be frustrated like Mariana was (for 7 months).  She made a change that included a resume makeover and a 30-60-90-Day Plan for Interviews.  The result?  3 Job Offers!  Read her story:

50+ Job Seeker Beats Age Bias to Get the Job!

Webinar-Sign-Up-AgeismI often speak to older job seekers who have a such difficult time in the job search, they believe that if they get a job, it may be at a lower level than what they are capable of, or at a lower salary than what they've earned in the past.  That doesn't have to be true for you.

Age bias is a real problem for job seekers over 50 (and sometimes over 40), but with the right approach, you can beat out younger candidates and get a great job.  Look at what happened for Thembi:

Hi Peggy,

I got the job & I'm over 50! ...your interview tips (lots of them) & webinars helped me clinch the deal. I used the words that the interviewers wanted to hear. I had to go through 3 job interviews, which helped refine my interview [performance]. I did experience a few ageism [biases] but in the end I won the job & beat even much younger candidates!
So Thank You for always giving those pep talks--they really help.

Best regards,

Thembi

Job Search Training Webinar Helps 60-Year-Old Get Hired

WebinarAre you in your 50s or 60s and having a hard time getting interviews or getting hired?  You're not alone.

Check out this inspiring letter from Nancy Dickey, who got 3 offers in 5 months using tips, ideas, and suggestions she got from our Free Job Search Webinars.

Hi Peggy...
I just wanted to thank you. You're a valuable resource to anyone and everyone who is in the midst of a job search. I found you through "The Ladders" last November when I was downsized due to funding from my job. I was devastated, as I had never - in 40 years of employment - been without a job.

I worked at my mission. I put time in every day until I moved at least one thing forward - be it a conversation with a recruiter, an HR department, a phone interview....etc. I listened to your Webinars, I redid my resume with your suggestions, I got interviews and I kept positive. There are jobs out there - it's a matter of what is right for you and also....timing. I landed a fabulous job last week - through a recruiter. I'm so thrilled. I'm 60years old and I defy anyone to say that age is a problem. Not so. This was the third offer I received in the space of 5 months. I believe the process can happen if you work at it and do the search the right way. I "gutwrenchingly" turned down two other offers. They just weren't for me....if I'm going to work for another 5-7 years - it's going to be at something that I love.

So, thank you for your tips, ideas and suggestions. I've told people about your webinars and I'm hoping that they take advantage of your service. I can't wait for my new job to begin. I can't wait to go out to work in the morning, call on clients, and feel like I've accomplished something during the day. Off with the sweatpants and on to blow drying my hair in the morning!!

Best Regards,

Nancy Dickey

50-Something Job Seeker Gains Confidence and Gets the Job

50s Job Seeker C FrostI speak to a lot of job seekers in their 50s and 60s with flagging self-confidence (for a lot of reasons--age bias, a job search that's very different from the last time they had to look, health issues, or personal circumstances).

So, I wanted to share with you this email from a job seeker in his 50s who learned how to answer interview questions, gained confidence, and got the job:

Hi Peggy

I would like to let you know for the last few weeks I have been reading and listening to your advice and would like to say a big 'Thank you' to you. I have put your advice into 'action' and was offered a position today from a quality company.

I am in my 50's and looking at the employees, it looks as if I will be the most mature of the employees in the company and it did not affect my chances. Your experience, advice and enthusiasm has help me tremendously to have the confidence to answer the questions correctly knowing the reasons behind the questions, so I was armed with the correct tools, to do as you say 'nail that job'. Thank you once again.

Regards,

C Frost

Finding a Job When You Are an Older Worker

Erin-K-Older-WorkerOne of the most difficult positions people can find themselves in is to be unemployed towards the end of their career. Many people think that the best option is to take early retirement if possible. This is not only untrue, but it can also be devastating to your financial goals. Older workers, those over 45, have a great deal to offer and most corporations recognize this. They actively recruit end-of-career hires because of the dedication and stability that they bring to a team.

It has long been assumed that the most desirable age for a new worker is between 23 and 25. This is no longer the case in most fields! Longevity is now being seen as a positive. Consider that on the resume of someone who has been in the workforce for 20 years a hiring manager has a tremendous amount of information about the person before ever meeting him. The manager can see how stable his employment has been, what types of projects he or she been working on and for how long; having decades of experience is always a positive trait.

30/60/90-Day Plan Helps 67-Year Old Get the Job (at a Higher Salary Than Expected!)

Executive (2)Paulus has never had to apply for work before. It always came to him...until now. He found himself in a job search, so he updated his resume, and created a 30-60-90-Day Plan (which he was told would not work--ha!).  The twist to his story shows the absolute power of persistence in a job search.

Enjoy his story.  I hope it inspires you.

Dear Peggy

Greetings to you and your team from Canada. Allow me to share just a short note with you all. In May of last year  I was at a cross road regarding my work. I have been working in Canada for over 4 years and have not had a weekend off. We my wife and I are not young anymore but still fit and healthy to do a good days work. In all my working career, I have not had to apply for work ever, the work always came to me.

So it was a real process for me to apply for a job here in Canada.  I’m so glad I found you at Career Confidential . I listened to many of the webinars and bought some of your material and studied it till I knew it well.

I wrote my resume and sent it to you, made the corrections and then did something which even my children said will not work. They are in Top Jobs here in Calgary one in the Legal sector and one senior town planner.

They said they never heard off such a thing as a 30/60/90 day plan. Well I did not listen to them. I presented my resume to a top 100 company and they were blown away with my plan. Bearing in mind I’m not that young (67-year old) I competed against top graduate young people.

The company told me they are very interested  but would have to offer the Job in-house first. Long story short the candidate only lasted 3 months. In the mean time, I completed a managers 30/60/90 day plan and sent an email off to the company informing them that I’m still interested and have done some more courses and would like to present them with my updated 30/60/90 day plan.

Well I’m happy to report that I got the Job and will start on X -X- 2015 and my salary is more than I expected.

To you and Carl and the team a BIG THANK YOU!

Paulus B.

How Paulus wrote his resume and got me to review it:  Extreme Resume Makeover Kit

The 30-60-90-Day Plan Paulus used:  30-60-90-Day Action Plan

I loved how Paulus followed up with the company--I am positive that his persistence and follow up helped him get the job.

Way to go Paulus!!!
